Our latest update for Trash ’n’ Tail: Raccoon Bandit is live, and it’s one of our biggest since launch. This patch expands the game with two brand-new worlds, introduces a long-awaited meta progression system, and delivers meaningful performance improvements under the hood - especially during cold starts.
Here’s a detailed breakdown of what’s new and what it means for players.
Two New Worlds: Winter Wonder & Wild West
We’ve expanded the raccoon playground with two distinct environments, each bringing its own visual identity and gameplay feel.
Winter Wonder
A snow-covered spherical world filled with icy terrain, frosted trees, and crisp winter atmosphere. The bright white landscape changes visibility and contrast, making tail awareness and obstacle tracking feel fresh again. Clean visuals, cool tones, and slippery-looking terrain give runs a new sense of speed and flow. For the first time, your raccoon leaves paw prints in untouched snow - subtle, temporal tracks that appear as you sprint across the planet and gradually fade away. They don’t permanently alter the terrain, but they create a brief visual echo of your movement, reinforcing direction, speed, and momentum in the moment.
Wild West
Dusty, warm, and rugged. The Wild West world introduces desert colors, dry vegetation, and frontier-inspired scenery. The flatter color palette and sharper environmental silhouettes create a different rhythm of navigation compared to our original world. Scattered across the terrain you’ll find frontier-themed set pieces like wagons, wooden fences, and small teepee camps that add visual variety and vertical silhouettes to the environment.
Each world is designed to preserve the core snake-like mechanics while shifting perception, pacing, and spatial awareness. More worlds are already in production and will roll out in future updates.
New Meta Progression System: Level Up Your Raccoon
One of the most requested features since launch has been long-term progression beyond high scores. This update introduces a meta progression layer that tracks your total collected trash across all runs.
How It Works
- Every piece of trash you collect now contributes to your overall lifetime total.
- Accumulating trash increases your player level.
- Your level represents long-term mastery and dedication, not just a single great run.
This system adds persistent progression to the arcade loop. Whether you prefer quick casual runs or extended multiplayer sessions, every match now contributes to measurable advancement.
We designed this progression to complement, not replace, leaderboard competition. High scores still matter - but now your overall grind does too.
Performance Improvements - Faster Cold Starts
On the technical side, we’ve focused heavily on performance optimization.
Previously, certain shaders were compiled lazily the first time they were needed. On a cold start, this could lead to noticeable micro-stutters as materials and effects appeared for the first time during gameplay. We’ve adjusted how and when shaders are prepared so that far fewer of them need to be compiled during active play on the initial run. The result:
- Significantly reduced stuttering during the first match after launching
- More consistent frame pacing
- Smoother visual transitions when new effects appear
Once shaders are cached, subsequent runs were already smooth, but now the very first session feels much closer to that ideal baseline. This work benefits both iOS and Android devices, particularly mid-range hardware where startup friction is more noticeable. Performance stability remains a continuous priority, and we’ll keep refining the technical foundation as the game grows.
